Backpacking Expeditions
What if I don’t have any gear?
That’s ok! TWB Tours is a fully equipped guide service and has all the gear you will need for any experience level expedition you choose.
How far will we hike each day?
This can vary depending on the expedition level you select
On average though you should be able to hike about 8-10 miles a day. This is just an average and can go as high as 15-20 miles a day for longer trips over shorter days.
For example if you selected a trip from Expedition Level 2 Intermediate, we will hike anywhere from 12-15 miles each day
What sort of fitness should I be in to go on a backpacking trip?
You should be able to walk at a comfortable pace for long periods of time without needing to stop for breaks often.
On average you should be able to keep a 1 to 1.5 mile per hour pace with a few breaks throughout the day plus a long break for lunch.
How can I get in shape?
Once you have a trip booked it is recommended that you start taking walks every other day with a weekly mileage equal to what your trip is.
For example if you selected a trip from Expedition Level 1 Intermediate, you will want to be able to hike anywhere from 10-12 miles each day. So walking 3-5 miles each day at home a few weeks before your trip will get you in shape for your trip.
What about food? What should I bring to eat?
TWB Tours provides all meals for each backpacking expedition.
Once you have booked your trip you will receive a PDF file via email within 24-48 hours of booking with a full menu for you to make a selection of your entire meal plan for your trip.
The meal plan includes breakfast, snacks, lunch, dinner, and drinks.
If you want to bring a few extra snacks for yourself or your group, feel open to do so. We will take a look to see what you are bringing just to make sure you are not overpacking and opening yourself up to potential issues during your trip.
What should I pack for a backpacking trip?
TWB Tours has you covered when it comes to all the gear you need for your trip.
Once you have booked your trip you will receive a PDF file via email within 24-48 hours of booking that has a full list of all the items you will want to pack.
What kind of shoes or boots should I have for backpacking?
This is rather a mixed answer. Some people prefer boots over trail runners(a type of tennis shoe designed specifically for use on hiking trails). Others, myself included, prefer trail runners over boots. That being said, if you don’t have a pair of either yet, we would recommend that you go over to your local outdoor sports store like an REI and have them help you select the shoe that fits and feels the best for you.
